Esther Rodríguez-Gallego was graduated in Biotechnology by Universitat Rovira i Virgili in 2010, and she obtained her Master degree in Biomedicine at the Universitat de Barcelona in 2011. In July 2015, she got the official qualification of Doctor by the Universitat Rovira i Virgili with the International Doctoral Distinction and obtaining the maximum qualification (Excellent cum laude unanimously) within the doctoral programme of Biomedicine.

The main topic of her PhD, carried out in Biomedical Research Unit (URB-CRB) was the study of the connection between inflammation and energy metabolism in diseases such as obesity and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, mainly searching for new biomarkers and for novel therapeutic strategies. During her PhD training, she moved to Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University in New York.

On 2015, she was employed as a post-doctoral researcher at Infection and Immunity Research Group (INIM) (HJ23) of Institut d'Investigació Sanitària (2015-2019). Her main research priority was the study of the role of inflammation and metabolic disturbances in HIV infection.

Finally, she has been visiting professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology at Universitat Rovira i Virgili since 2019.

She has 52 outstanding publications in international journals indexed with 984 citations that give an h index of 20 according to the Web of Science (May 2021). Co-author of 3 approved patents of which 2 have already been licensed, and co-author of another recent patent application submitted to the competent body. Member of the research team in several competitive research projects and collaborator in three technology transfer project (PBA2011A Bayer Private Foundation; BITTERFI R2B22021; ESSARPI DIPTA2020)
