Raul Beltrán Debón has been a professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili since 2012. He studied Biochemistry at the same university and completed his doctoral thesis at the Biomedical Research Center of the Sant Joan de Reus University Hospital and the Pere Virgili Health Research Institute. He has held the position of associate professor since December 2021.
In his doctoral thesis, he investigated the potential modulating effects of polyphenols on inflammation and metabolism in the context of obesity and hepatic steatosis.
After completing his thesis in 2011, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Cardiovascular Research Group of the Sant Joan de Reus University Hospital (2012-2014) and in the Research Group on Infectious Diseases and HIV/AIDS of the Joan XXIII University Hospital in Tarragona (2014-2015). In 2015, he joined the Cheminformatics and Nutrition Research Group of the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology at the URV, and later, in 2018, he became a member of the MoBioFood Research Group.
He has supervised two doctoral theses, and his scientific output includes over 100 papers published in internationally indexed journals, with more than 3000 citations resulting in an h-index of 30 according to the Web of Science (as of November 2023). He holds 2 six-year research periods and 1 five-year teaching period.
